Nausea is a sensation of unease and discomfort in the upper stomach with an involuntary urge to vomit. It may precede vomiting, but a person can have nausea without vomiting. Gastrointestinal infection is one of the most common causes of acute nausea and vomiting. Nausea and vomiting are not diseases, but rather are symptoms of many different conditions, such as infection, food poisoning, motion sickness, overeating, blocked intestine, illness, brain injury, appendicitis, and migraines.
